MOVE THE SLIDER TO LEFT & RIGHT In the left picture you see how the original fireplace with bakery oven looked like. In the right picture you can see how it has been carefully restored with respect for its historical character. Due to modern safety and health regulations, open fires are no longer permitted, so a stove has been installed to ensure the safe ventilation of smoke and harmful gases. Although the original bakery oven on the left can no longer be used, a flickering candlelight lamp has been placed inside to create the warm illusion that it’s still ready to bake your homemade, fresh bread. 😉

This illustration shows how the original Cueva was carved into the rolling foothills of the Sierra de la Corqué.
This illustration shows how parts of the rock have been carved away to make space for the construction of the villa and the additional entrances to the original Cueva. It also reveals the various extensions that have been created and how they have been seamlessly integrated with the existing cave structure.
The villa is located in the province of Murcia, near Fortuna. It is at about 75 km (a one hour drive) from the Mediterranean Sea. A drive from and to Alicante Airport takes 45 minutes; to the city of Murcia it takes 35 minutes.
Some foto's on this site were taken before 2020. Since then the villa has only been occasionally visited due to personal circumstances. So the garden and outdoor areas show signs of neglect, including weather-related wear, hillside erosion, and minor damage to patio panels, doors, and terrace tiles. A recent attempted break-in was unsuccessful thanks to robust security features and the front door has been repaired. But the villa’s structure, roof, interior, and cuevas remain in good condition, requiring only minor paint touch-ups. Out of experience we can tell that with love and care, its full beauty will come alive again! Our agent is fully briefed and will reflect this in the pricing and negotiations.
There's a lot to see and do in the area. Beneath is a link to a site where our favorites are highlighted. No need to elaborate on them here, they speak for themselves. BUT: one item stands out in such a way that we made an item of it. The historic Roman baths of Baños de Fortuna. A visit is really a must! See below. Further: In nearby Fortuna (10 min. by car), you’ll find all the essentials of daily living—shops, restaurants, and cafés—while the vibrant city of Murcia is just a 30-minute drive away. The area is rich with cultural and natural treasures: from Roman sites like the sanctuary Cueva Negra, to picturesque springs such as San Jeronimo and dramatic gorge-passages like La Cortao de la Pena. Several national parks lie within easy reach, including Sierra de la Pila, home to ancient snow pits (Pozos de Nieve), lush flora and fauna, and breathtaking panoramic viewpoints including the summit of La Pila itself. Learn MoreAfter the passing of our parents—most recently our mother—we, as their sons, inherited the villa equally. Given our personal situations, we’ve decided to sell this special place. It’s an emotional step, as our parents put their heart and soul into creating their dream: a peaceful retreat to escape the Dutch winters. We honour their legacy and believe the time has come for someone else to enjoy it. The photos show what once was—and what can be again—when the home is lived in and loved. We’re looking forward to handing over the keys—maybe to you! Warm regards, Herwin and Peter
Note from the Dutch owners: Rely Estates is our trusted sales representative and works in close partnership with Fuster Associates, our reliable notary for nearly ten years. We have full confidence in their expertise and have entrusted them with both the sale of the villa and related legal matters.
